5 марта 1953 г. умер Председатель Совета Министров СССР и Секретарь ЦК КПСС Иосиф Виссарионович Сталин. Похороны Сталина состоялись 9 марта 1953 г. на Красной площади в Москве. Для прощания тело Сталина было выставлено 6 марта в Колонном зале Дома Союзов. В 16 часов пришли первые потоки людей, желающих проститься с вождем. Сталин лежал в гробу, на высоком постаменте, в обрамлении красных знамен, роз и зеленых ветвей.

On March 5, 1953, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin died. Stalin's funeral took place on March 9, 1953 on Red Square in Moscow. Stalin's body was exhibited on March 6 in the Hall of Columns of the House of Unions. At 16 o'clock the first streams of people came, wishing to say goodbye to the leader. Stalin was lying in a coffin, on a high pedestal, framed by red banners, roses and green branches.
