В сентябре 1957 г. под руководством Фармана Салманова работники Сургутской нефтеразведочной экспедиции, прибывшие на Север, пробурили первую скважину. В поселке Черный Мыс, на территории базы Сургутской нефтеразведки состоялось бурение первой глубокой разведочной скважины.
Жители поселка были взволнованы, они впервые могли увидеть буровую вышку в работе. Согласно геологическому отчету, бурение Сургутской скважины Р-1 было начато 20 января 1959 г., а завершено 6 марта 1960 г. Проектная глубина составляла 3700 м. Фактически было пробурено 3087,5 метра. В результате испытания скважины был открыт артезианский источник подземных вод, нефти не оказалось. Прошло время, и сегодня о той памятной попытке свидетельствуют масса буровых вышек в Сургуте качающих из сибирских недр черное золото.

As a result of testing the well, an artesian source of groundwater was discovered, there was no oil. Time has passed, and today the mass of drilling rigs in Surgut pumping black gold from the Siberian depths testify to that memorable attempt.
