Немало уже написано и сказано об известных весах «Тюмень». Но не многие знают, что история весов «Тюмень» зародилась в начале прошлого века. Разработаны они были в Германии, а производство запланировано было начать в Киеве на заводе «Цепи Галля». Во время войны часть оборудования завода и некоторые специалисты были эвакуированы из Киева в Тюмень. В это время все работали для победы и вместо весов стали выпускать снаряды, гранаты, комбайновые цепи и знаки различия для командного состава.
Производство весов «Тюмень» началось только в 1959 году на Тюменском приборостроительном заводе. За первый год произвели 2160 штук. В 1978 году завод выпустил первый миллион весов, а в 1994 году – второй миллион. На данный момент их более 2,2 миллионов экземпляров по всей России.
Разработкой дизайна занимались конструкторское бюро и технологический отдел предприятия. С первых дней весы стали пользоваться большой популярностью – они были практичны, устойчивой конструкции, выдерживали жару и морозы (работали при температуре от -20°C до +50°C). О качестве весов можно слагать легенды: некоторые экземпляры, выпущенные в середине прошлого века, работают до сих пор. Весы «Тюмень» распродавались не только в Советском Союзе, но и за рубежом. Они попали в Африку, Индонезию и еще около 80 стран мира.
В 2012 году производство весов было приостановлено из-за низкого спроса. Эпоха легендарных весов закончилась. Но, несмотря на широкое распространение электронных приборов, весы «Тюмень» до сих пор можно увидеть на рынках и в магазинах.

In 2012, the production was suspended due to low demand. The era of the legendary scales is over. But, despite the widespread use of electronic devices, scales "Tyumen" can still be seen in markets and in stores.
