If you remember Soviet times, then you could very often hear the slogan: "The USSR is the most reading country." This is true, in fact, people have read a lot. Although it was almost impossible to get a good book, especially classics and a subscription edition, so there was a saying "A book is the best gift".
From afar, Soviet bookstores seemed chock-full of books. Only on closer inspection, all these books were useless ideological junk to anyone. However, there were books that enjoyed popular appreciation and love: fiction, detective stories, historical novels and books "about love" by French authors of the XIX century.
One of the oldest in the region can be considered the bookstore "Knowledge", which opened in Tyumen more than half a century ago. From the moment of its foundation until 2006, the store was located on Ordzhonikidze Street, and then moved to Volodarsky Street. Here, as half a century ago, they still sell stationery, children's and educational literature, and there is also a large department where the works of local authors are presented.
