With the development of the North of Western Siberia, the formation of the settlement network of the northern regions begins. In harsh climatic and natural-geographical conditions, the first urban-type settlements, working settlements, appear. In the presented photo, the city of Nizhnevartovsk, located on the banks of the Ob River, passed its history from the village of Nizhnevartovsk, formed on September 29, 1964, of the district of the same name, which was transformed into a city of district significance on March 9, 1972.
Today Nizhnevartovsk is the administrative center of Nizhnevartovsk district of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug — Yugra. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Samotlor oil field and is one of the largest centers of the Russian oil industry. Dynamically developing socio-economic infrastructure has turned Nizhnevartovsk into a modern, comfortable and the safest city to live in.
