On January 16, 1963, it was decided to organize a branch of the Writers' Union of the RSFSR in the city of Tyumen. The birthday of the writers' organization is considered to be February 16, 1963, when the first solemn constituent meeting of the Tyumen branch of the Writers' Union of the RSFSR took place.
The writers' organization was created during the development of the West Siberian oil and gas complex. The Tyumen Rural Regional Party Committee proposed to establish an organization to a group of professional writers Ermakov, Istomin, Lagunov, Yelovskikh, Nikolay and Zverev. Konstantin Lagunov, who led the organization for the next 20 years, was elected executive secretary.
On May 26, 1967, the Tyumen branch of the Writers' Union of the RSFSR was renamed into the Tyumen Writers' Organization. Now the organization is called the Tyumen regional branch of the Union of Writers of Russia.
