On March 5, 1953, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin died. Stalin's funeral took place on March 9, 1953 on Red Square in Moscow. Stalin's body was exhibited on March 6 in the Hall of Columns of the House of Unions. At 16 o'clock the first streams of people came, wishing to say goodbye to the leader. Stalin was lying in a coffin, on a high pedestal, framed by red banners, roses and green branches.
