Агитационный театр как общественное явление возник после Октябрьской революции. Основной его целью являлась пропаганда коммунистических идей среди неграмотного слоя населения. Агитационный театр имел широкое распространение, и по стране возникали театральные кружки, студии, устраивались «массовые празднества», в которых ярко отображались основные революционные события. Возникло множество движений подобного театра со своими идеями по созданию принципиально новой культуры. Труппы, существовавшие под названием Пролеткульта, охотно ставили классические пьесы. В довоенное время агитационной театр приобрел большую известность в нашей стране.
Очень ярко и интересно проявили себя агитационные бригады в годы Великой Отечественной войны. В это время актеры Тюменского драматического театра выступали в госпиталях перед ранеными бойцами. Они же приезжали к колхозникам в сельские клубы. 
В Тюменской области агитационные бригады хорошо проявили себя во время освоения целины, строительства новых городов, освоения нефтегазовых богатств края.

The propaganda brigades showed themselves very vividly and interestingly during the Great Patriotic War. At that time, the actors of the Tyumen Drama Theater performed in hospitals in front of wounded soldiers. They also came to the collective farmers in rural clubs. 
In the Tyumen region, propaganda brigades proved themselves well during the development of virgin lands, the construction of new cities, the development of oil and gas resources of the region.
