In September 1957, under the leadership of Farman Salmanov, the workers of the Surgut oil exploration expedition, who arrived to the North, drilled the first well. Drilling of the first deep exploration well took place in the village of Cherny Mys on the territory of the Surgut Oil Exploration base.
The villagers were excited, they could see the rig in operation for the first time. According to the geological report, drilling of the Surgut well R-1 was started on January 20, 1959, and completed on March 6, 1960. The design depth was 3700 m. In fact, 3087.5 meters were drilled. As a result of testing the well, an artesian source of groundwater was discovered, there was no oil. Time has passed, and today the mass of drilling rigs in Surgut pumping black gold from the Siberian depths testify to that memorable attempt.
